Front Cover and Contents Page

Ideas for contents page and feature article page, layout

For my contents page I am wanting many more artists than 2, this is because it will look better featuring more artists. I am wanting to also have the freebe's advertised in the contents page. I will also have a large picture of Will at the bottom off the page, this is because my main feature article is of Will.

Photography ideas for contents page and small photo on the front cover.

I have many photography ideas, these are a few photographs that I like. I will use these as an extra artist in my magazine. Jade will be on my front cover, as a small photograph, as well as in my contents page. I will be using the top right photograph for my contents page.

2nd Idea for front cover

My idea for this front cover is to have my model Will, the main photograph will have half his face, with a white background. I will also be having his hair scruffy and his eye looking directly into the camera, this will add an effect which will make the readers feel involved in the magazine.
My title to the magazine will go over the picture, this is so that my audience know which magazine it is and can easily identify.
I will also be having another model, Jade. She will be on my front cover and contents page. I am wanting her to have a casual look. She is an artist that has returned after not producing any new music in a long time.
I am needing to find another artist to be on my front cover, as well as finding more artists to go on my contents page.
I am going to have a bit of writing on my front cover, this will be to introduce Will, but not giving away too much about him.
There will be also in little writing the page numbers, this is so that readers can quickly find what they are looking for. 

One Idea for my front cover

Will is sat on a chair with his arms leaning on the sides of the chair. Holding his guitar in one hand, his eyes will be fixed on the camera. This will make the audience engaged in the magazine. The background will be a black wall, this way the writing won't be obstructed by other colours.
Jade, one of my other models that will be mentioned on the front cover and contents page. This another artist. She is an artist that has come back from years of not performing or releasing any singles.
I still need to find another artist/band to be on the front cover and contents page.
I have also put a competition on the front to attract more people to read and buy the magazine.
I have put "Tinson" in large letters on the bottom of the page. This is will's second name and it identifies who i am talking about, rather then just writing "will".

Unfortunately Will couldn't do my photography so my artist will be Guy Leftwich. So I will be changing the magazine, instead of Will I will be writing Guy.

How does the magazine appeal to this audience?

The magazine appeals to the audience because, it is dark colours and not a magazine cover that every teenager/young adult would buy, this is why most of the audience will buy the magazine to find new and different artists. 

This front cover would attract the ages between 15-24 year olds well, this is because of the free posters and the layout. It is a simple layout with mainly dark colours. 

72% of readers that read rock sound are male, in this front cover you can see this buy how the artist on the front has tattooes and is very dull and the magazine has used dark colors. If the magazine wanted to aim for woman then they would have made it bright, smiling artist on the front.

How does the magazine appeal to this audience?

The magazine appeals to the audience by having a large picture of an artist on the front cover. By having a large picture of an artist it will attract the right target market to what will be inside the magazine.
There is also bright colors which will attract ages between 15-34. This includes the artist on this front covers make-up, it's very bold.
Q uses the gold to represent an achievement which will make the readers more intrigued on whats inside.

What was the thinking behind your design choices?

•   I wanted it to have colors; this was to attract my target audience which is 15-17 year old. I feel as though I did achieve this.
• Having the title and slogan straight at the top of the page. This was because when analysing other magazines they did this and I thought it looked very sophisticated.
•   I wanted the Downs School logo in the picture; this would show what school (sixth form) the magazine is advertising.

How successful was your finished page?

•   I think my finished cover was very successful, but I would have changed a few things about it to make it more successful. I would change the location of the picture; this is because of the white banner, there is too much writing on it which means the pictures a bit too busy and crowded which you don’t want on a front cover. That’s something I would change for it to look successful.

What do you need to work on for your main coursework portfolio?

•  I did well with time management, I got the work done with extra time, in this extra time I went back and edited the front cover because I was unhappy with it. I just think I need to spend more time on some of the work so I don’t need to go back and re-edit everything. 
•  I think I just need to think before I do something, E.g. Choosing font colors were hard because I hadn't thought of where exactly to take the photograph.

This is my final magazine idea. I made it bright with a lot of color, this was to attract attention to it.

These are the 6 choices of font that I found would stand out. The top 4 are very similar and the bottom one is quite quirky. I am going to choose the 4th font which is, Batang. This is because if it's bold it will stand out well and is very straight with what it's saying. After looking at other magazines i found that they all looked very similar to this font which makes me feel confident with choosing this.

Ideas for Photography: - Have someone dressed in sixth form standing in front of the downs sign looking directly into the camera with a smile on there face, and holding their bag as well as other things eg, musical instrument, hockey stick, football.. This will show how there is many opportunities at the school.

-         - Get a bunch of sixth formers to sit in the common room socialising, (laughing, smiling and enjoying them selves) this will show a positive attitude to being at the sixth form. The fact that they have time to socialise will appeal to people going to the school.
